I have lost count of the number of times I rejected my friends (one of them is Jan of pathfinderph) invitation for a hike because I am not physically prepared. I don't have daily exercise. I despise jogging and going to the gym. But I really cannot deny that I miss hiking. So a night before the hike I prepared my things. I did not set an alarm and if I will wake up at 5:30 AM, I will join the hike.

The next day at 6:00 AM, I was awakened by a phone call from my friend. So I guess I would really join the hike.

We started our hike at 8:00 AM. When we had our first ascent, I already told my friends that I would just go back to the jump-off. My heartbeat was so fast and I was already tired. But they kept on encouraging me that I really could make it to the peak. My mind was on an endless debate about giving up or pushing forward. We went at a slow pace and countless stopovers.

After an hour of trekking, we arrived at a sari-sari store and rested a bit. We had ice candy, water, and some trail foods. Good thing, my body has recovered. We continued the hike and had another stop at Pagimpinon Peak. We ate our lunch there since Kalbasaan Peak does not have a shade to shelter us from the scorching heat.

It was past 12 noon when we arrived at Kalbasaan Peak. It was so hot but I let it slipped because of the beautiful panoramic view of Cebu. We decided to stay there for just 30 minutes. But a few minutes our estimated time to descent, the sun hid the clouds and gave us a cool temperature that we decided to extend another 30 minutes. We got to see the beauty of both sides of Cebu. The Toledo City on the west, and the Minglanilla and Talisay City on the east.

River trekking

I did not know that river trekking was included in our itinerary. I thought that only my body was not equipped for this hike, but I did not expect that my footwear was not ready too. We descended for almost an hour before we started the river trekking. I tried my best not to soak my feet in the water but to no avail, there are some areas that you really have to step into the river. The river's current was not strong and it was also a shallow one. You just have to be extra careful in stepping into the rocks since others are mossy and slippery.

Everland at Spring

Hallyu wave has surely hit the Philippines. With the increasing number of K-pop and K-drama fans in the country, it is undeniable that the number of Korea tourist visa applications has also skyrocketed. And to address the high demand, the Korean Embassy in Manila recently released a list of accredited travel agencies for the visa application process. Starting July 1, 2018, the Korean Embassy in Manila will no longer accept visa application. Korean Consulate in Cebu still accepts personal visa applications.

Cherry blossoms are beautiful yet fleeting. So if you are traveling to South Korea on a cherry blossoms season, don't miss the chance to visit these places for picture-perfect scenery.

Seoul Forest

Subway station: Seoul Forest Station (Subway Bundang Line) Exit 3

This place is a fusion of a park and nature. Located in the middle of the bustling city of Seoul, no need to go further to inhale fresh air. This place also has gym equipment, bike rentals, picnic areas, and a handful of beautiful sakura.

Yeouido Hangang Park

Subway station: Yeouinaru Station (Seoul Subway Line 5) Exit 2 or 3

This place is pretty crowded especially during the late afternoon. But what makes it a must-visit? You can enjoy street foods like tteokbokki (rice cake), odeng (fish cake), etc while walking under the perfectly lined cherry blossoms. Romantic, isn't it?

Changdeokgung

Subway station: Anguk Station (Seoul Subway Line 3) Exit 3

You should wear a Hanbok (Korean Traditional Dress) not only to avail of a free admission but to immerse yourself in Korea's culture and tradition. Explore the palace like a cast of a sageuk (historical period dramas).

BONUS...

Of course, spring is not just about cherry blossoms. So here are some spots where you can appreciate other blooms like tulips, magnolia, azalea to name a few.

Shifen Old Street is located at Pingxi district. It was once a railroad town that transports coal. Meanwhile, the sky lantern was used as a signalling system for those who are working in the coal mining industry and their families.

The Sky Lantern

Shifen old street is the only place in Taiwan where you can fly a sky lantern. It is open all year round. Every January 15 is the sky lantern festival.

A sky lantern costs 200 NTD. You can choose a single coloured or multi-coloured lantern. Each colour has a meaning. The famous colour combinations are red for wealth, yellow for money, blue for career, and orange for love. After choosing your lantern, you will write your wishes on it. They believe that God in heaven will read and grant written wishes.

The Foods

Chicken Wings with Fried Rice
Thai Style Hot and Spicy Chicken

After flying a sky lantern, a food trip is a must. We tried Chicken Wings with Fried Rice (70 NTD) and Thai Style Hot and Spicy Chicken (120 NTD). Both are delicious and a must-try.
